Naknek Seafood Employment Office Open for Business

The Naknek temporary seafood employment office officially opened June 27, the Department of Labor and Workforce Development announced today.

The seafood employment team is operating the temporary office through July 17 to help workers in Bristol Bay find other seafood jobs statewide once they've completed their contracts in the Bay. Three seafood employment specialists are coordinating with seafood employers to send workers to jobs in Petersburg, Cordova, Valdez, Yakutat, Dutch Harbor, Kenai and other sites as the need arises.

Last year 70 workers from Bristol Bay used this program to extend their seasonal employment in the industry. "I've already talked to several workers who participated in the program last year and were very happy," said seafood employment specialist Melody Dosier, who opened the office on Wednesday. "They're back in the Bay this year and plan to keep working the rest of the summer in Alaska."

Interested workers can contact the Naknek Seafood Employment Office by phone at (907) 246-3925, toll free at 1-800-473-0688, or in person from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. The office is located at #1 Stenvall Street, the Old Civic Center in Naknek. They can also check out the "Seafood Jobs In Alaska" Web site that shows current openings at jobs.alaska.gov and click on "Seafood Jobs" and "Current Openings."
