Grants available through AWIO for workers impacted by fisheries failure

Recent events have indicated western and Interior Alaska continue to experience a fisheries failure. The State anticipates that current weak salmon returns, coupled with prevailing low prices, will further worsen the economic dislocations and hardships of previous years. Alaska intends to use Workforce Investment Act (WIA) Rapid Response funds to meet the needs of dislocated workers impacted by significant fisheries failure. /p>

The Alaska Workforce Investment Office, Department of Labor and Workforce Development is soliciting grant applications for peer support services as a model to assist those dislocated workers in rural and remote areas get information and services, and, in some cases, return to gainful work. /p>

Eligible entities include any non-profit or for-profit organization, business, or government agency licensed or recognized to conduct a business in Alaska that can meet the requirements of this grant. /p>

The issuing office must receive applications no later than 5PM Alaska Standard Time on Monday, February 4, 2002.
