Employment experts line up to keep Kodiak employers informed.

The Kodiak Job Center is sponsoring an Employers' Seminar, March 13, 2002 at 11:30 AM to 4:30 PM in Room #106 at the Kodiak College on 117 Benny Benson Drive to provide Kodiak area employers with the latest employment, labor law, unemployment insurance, tax and audit information available from the Alaska Department of Labor and Workforce Development, commissioner Ed Flanagan announced today.

"The employer seminar is one of many our Alaska Job Centers sponsor around the state, in this case, to apprise Kodiak employers of the most requested pieces of information Labor typically gets -- like wage and hour issues, employee discharge and layoffs, tax contribution reports, contract labor, audit forms, and how unemployment tax dollars work," said Flanagan.

Speakers and topics include Randy Carr, from the Wage and Hour section, providing an overview and update on law changes; Bill Milewski, from Employment Service Tax, explaining employer tax registration via phone and providing the latest information on contract labor; Jack Yandell, a supervisor in the Anchorage Unemployment Insurance Call Center, describing UI separation and paperwork, quit/discharge and layoff issues, and how telephonic filing for benefits works; and, Jim Schwanke, representing UI fraud investigations, on how employer tax dollars are put to use in detecting fraud, and on quarterly wage and audit forms.

The seminar is free of charge, except for a ten-dollar fee that will be collected at the door for those opting for a lunch that will be available.

To sign up for the seminar, or for more information, contact Maureen Butler at the Kodiak Job Center, 486-3107.

The Alaska Job Center Network operates 23 full and partial service job centers across the state providing job advertising, pre-screening and matching services for employers, and job search, training and placement services for job seekers.
