65 employers to take part in April 14 event in Anchorage

(Juneau) – Alaskans hoping for jobs in the state’s expanding health care and human services industry will be able to get information on job opportunities from more than 65 employers at a career fair in Anchorage on Thursday, April 14.

The Health Care and Human Services Career Fair, which runs 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Anchorage Muldoon Job Center, 1251 Muldoon Road, is part of the state labor department’s mission to help Alaskans find good-paying jobs, said Greg O’Claray, Commissioner of the Alaska Department of Labor and Workforce Development.

“The health care and human service provider industries urgently need to recruit, hire, train and retain qualified staff,” O’Claray said. “This job fair is a great opportunity for employers to share important potential Alaskan employees, especially to young Alaskans and rural residents.”

The career fair is a cooperative project of the Labor Department’s Job Center Network, the Alaska State Hospital and Nursing Home Association and the Alaska Alliance for Direct Service Careers (AADSC).

The health care and human services industry is a major economic contributor and the fastest growing industry in Alaska, employing approximately 22,000 people. Annual health care earnings averaged more than $38,500 in 2002.

“Last year’s event in Anchorage was an overwhelming success, with more than 1,200 people visiting with health care and human services providers,” O’Claray said. “The information available at this event will help Alaskans take advantage of new opportunities in this field, and I encourage everyone interested to come take part in this event.”

Additional information on careers in health care is available online at the state labor department website at jobs.alaska.gov/healthcare.htm Employers can take advantage of free registration by contacting the Business Connection at 907-269-4777.
