American Community Survey is new and is supposed to replace the census long form with social and demographic data for states, counties, and small areas over the next seven years. The first ACS Alaska data may be available in 2003. Data for 2001 and 2002 are being produced as C2SS (The Census 2000 Supplemental Survey). This survey asks the same questions but uses a smaller, less representative survey. Reduced congressional funding threatens to delete the ACS or substantially reduce the geographic scope of the ACS data.
